Description

A hearty classic lasagna made with layers of meat, cheese, and marinara sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 package Lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 jar Marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • to taste Fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a rapid boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions, slightly undercooking them. Drain and lay them flat.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage for 7 to 10 minutes. Drain excess fat, stir in garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning. Pour in marinara sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the grated Parmesan. Blend until smooth.
  5. In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer three lasagna noodles, half the ricotta mixture, and a third of the mozzarella. Repeat the process.
  6. Add another layer of meat sauce, noodles, the remaining ricotta, and another third of mozzarella. Cover with the remaining meat sauce and top with the rest of the mozzarella.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining grated Parmesan cheese on top before baking.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 20 minutes until golden.
  9. Let the lasagna rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Undercooking the noodles slightly will help maintain the right texture.
  • You can use ground turkey as a leaner alternative for the meat.
