Description
A classic apple pie made with tender apples and a flaky crust.

- 2 pre-made 9-inch pie crusts
- 6 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, diced
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Place one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and chill while preparing the filling.
- In a large bowl, mix apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and flour. Let sit 10 minutes.
- Pour the apple mixture into the chilled pie crust and dot with butter. Cover with the second crust and crimp edges. Cut slits in top.
- Whisk egg and milk together and brush over the top crust.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 45–50 minutes, until golden and bubbly. Cover edges with foil if browning too fast.
- Let cool for 2 hours before slicing to allow filling to set.
Notes
- For a sweeter pie, add more sugar to taste.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
